Becoming a Catholic

OCIA – Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

Becoming Catholic OCIA (formerly R.C.I.A.)

Thinking about becoming Catholic?

The process of becoming Catholic is formally known as the Orders of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). It is a gradual process of spiritual formation that includes prayer, sharing, and study and occurs in the context of the parish community.

It is intended for adults who would like to be fully initiated and welcomed into the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist; or were baptized in another Christian community/tradition* and seek to be received into the full communion of the Catholic Church through the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist; and/or were baptized as Catholics* as infants/children but have not received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.

The program requires a commitment of one year of classes and preparation for full initiation. For those Baptized Catholic and have received the First Eucharist, requirements may differ.

A period of evaluation and discernment will be required. For more information, please contact Deacon Tom Harenchar at deacontom@olangelscc.org or Lucy Tamajon at LTamajon@olangelscc.org.

*Baptism Certificate will be required at registration.
