ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Church believes and teaches that the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick offers the comfort of God's grace to those who are in danger of death because of illness or old age. Also, by the grace of this Sacrament, “the sick person receives the strength and the gift” to join more closely of his or her sufferings to Christ and to prepare for death (cf. CCC# 1521).
In addition to the Anointing of the Sick, the Church offers “those who are about to leave this life the Eucharist as viaticum. Communion in the body and blood of Christ, received at this moment of ‘passing over’ to the Father, has a particular significance and importance” (CCC# 1524).
