CALL TO ACTION from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) identified four troubling legislative actions. The USCCB urges Catholics to contact Congress and voice their concern. 

First, House Appropriators began repealing federal policies that prevented taxpayer funding of abortion. For 45 years, the Hyde Amendment protected taxpayers from funding abortion. Now, some in Congress want to repeal this protection. Your tax dollars would pay for abortion. Contact Senator Marco Rubio (www.rubio.senate.gov), Senator Rick Scott (www.rickscott.senate.gov), and Representative Vern Buchanan (https://buchanan.house.gov). Oppose repeal of the Hyde Amendment.

Second, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act in Congress protects babies from infanticide. A child born alive after an abortion is a human person under the law. This Act requires any health care professional present when a child is born after an abortion to exercise the same degree of care to preserve the child’s life and health as any other new born. Contact Representative Vern Buchanan to continue to fight for this Act.

Third, President Biden released his fiscal year 2022 budget. He cuts the Hyde Amendment and related pro-life provisions. Contact the President and oppose his decision to force taxpayers to fund abortions. Contact President Joe Biden, Jr., (www.whitehouse.gov)

Fourth, the Equality Act comes up for Senate vote. The Act would discriminate against people of faith. The Act codifies the new ideology of “gender” in federal law. It dismisses sexual difference; and, presents “gender” as only a social construct. It exempts itself from the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. It forces parish halls to host functions in conflict with the Catholic faith. It requires women to compete against men and boys in sports. It would force women and girls to share locker rooms, showers, and dorms with men who self-identify as women. The Act threatens faith-based charities and schools with violation of their religious beliefs. It forces health-care workers to support gender transition. It risks use of federal tax dollars for abortions. Contact Senators’ Rubio and Scott, and Representative Buchanan. Oppose this legislation.
